Automation Age

In our day-to-day life, everywhere, the magic word Automatic is so popular especially in electronics. We can’t imagine the today’s world without this word; say for example ATMs (automated Teller Machines). What is it all about? Coming to modern electronics, it is the way of performing a task by gadget with pre programmed methodology and operating with minimal human intervention. It’s really fantastic, to automate monotonous tasks in our life which consume our time and efforts.

Gadget is a device that has particular function. In general, gadgets are intelligently designed and based more on innovation. Most of the modern gadgets are programmable gadgets. These are mainly based on a microprocessor. Such gadgets have software embedded in it, which controls their functions. As these programmable gadgets typically have a single task or a very small number of related tasks that they are programmed to perform can treated as embedded systems.

An embedded system is a computer system designed to perform one or a few dedicated functions. It is embedded as part of a complete device often including hardware and mechanical parts. In contrast, a general-purpose computer, such as a personal computer, is designed to be flexible and to meet a wide range of an end-user’s needs. Embedded systems control many of the common devices in use today.

Embedded systems may be used anywhere, in a car or at home as well. Every home has several examples of embedded computers. Any appliance that has a digital clock, for instance, has a small embedded microcontroller that performs no other task than to display the clock. Modern cars have embedded computers onboard that control such things as ignition timing and anti-lock brakes using input from a number of different sensors.
With this intro, let’s think about our first steps of learning this technology…
